Here are some questions that our customers ask us most often. You will find some general tips and other important information about our wooden houses collection that we are producers of:

Impregnate before or after the assembly?

A question that our customer ask us frequently is "Should the house be impregnated BEFORE or AFTER the assembly?"

The advice we give is undoubtedly to impregnate it first, so that each piece of wood is protected.

In fact, if we impregnate afterward, we certainly would not be able to get in some parts with the brush and therefore would be at the mercy of the woodworm, bad weather, etc... In particular, we would not be able to impregnate the floor when it is already in contact with the surface, since the space would be little.

Just the floor is a very important and delicate component that we suggest to impregnate even 2 times and to treat not only with the water-based primer of Home Idea Italia, but also with the liquid membrane, so that it is protected from water and damp.

Further advice is to use non-synthetic, non-glossy, water-base primers, as over the years for future maintenance, it would be necessary to scratch by hand every joint where there is the groove of the matchboards.
The gloss also occludes the pores of the wood which, not breathing, would create cracking and twisting.

We use only matt finished water-based primers for our product in the colors: teak, walnut, chestnut and white.

How are made the houses in panels and why are they easier to assemble than the blockhouse?

Our customers choose the houses in panels because they are the easiest to assemble: simply place the panels side by side and screw them together.

Customers ask often us the question: "why should I choose a model in panels instead of a blockhouse?"

The simplicity of assembly we mentioned is certainly one of the reasons, but not the only one.

A wooden house in panels with 20 mm thickness is more robust (and heavier) than the corresponding 20 mm blockhouse: this is because each wall panel is equipped with a counterframe in strips, useful to fix the screws.

The force exerted by the latter means that you will find also very large 20 mm houses in panels (for example, our maxi chalet up to 70 square meters), but in case of a large blockhouse, you will need significantly higher wood thickness with a consequent increase of the final price.

In the end, last but not least reason: purchasing from an Italian manufacturer is guarantee of quality, assembly and after-sales support.

Most of the time blockhouse models are imported from Eastern Europe Countries and every problem (for example, a damaged piece, a component to be replaced a few years after the purchase) can lead to long waits.

Should I buy a wooden house with or without floor? Also what is the liquid membrane?

We premise that for the optimal installation of a house in panels, you need a concrete base: the choice to buy also the floor depends solely on your needs. For example, if the house is used for store bikes, motorcycle, lawn mowers, etc ... it will certainly be better to opt for a version without a floor.

On the other hand, if you want to have a raised surface from the ground (in fact our floor first have a 3x3 cm strip at the bottom and than the 2cm matchboards) and keep better or put shelves, etc.. then it is better to opt for a version with floor.

The liquid membrane (as shown in the picture) is spread on the lower part of the house: once dried, the wood will not fear water and damp.

Can I insulate a wooden house?

Of course. Once the house is assembled, you can apply pre-assembled 3cm panels in extruded polyurethane inside the 3x3 cm frame, cutting it to size, then closing it again with an additional layer of wood (matchboards, abs, marine plywood) or plasterboard.

Note: we can supply exclusively the matchboards. The other materials are not available.

You can view the inside of our houses just described in the next post.

What is the slate and what differences does it have with the Canadian tile?

They are basically 2 similar products (bitumen + stone flakes), but a clarification must be made: these 2 products differ greatly from the tar paper that you can find in the purely imported economic houses and which does not guarantee a good durability such as slate and Canadian tile.

The slate is in sheets of 1 m (90 cm with grit + 10 cm of overlap useful for the coupling of the various sheets), the tile has the shape of a flattened tile, where one part is visible and another will be covered by another tile.

Certainly, the Canadian tile is prettier to see, if you have for example a view of the house or if there is another structure (canopy or roof) in the area with Canadian tile. But they are the same at functional level (if compared to our slate from 4 kg per square -5°. However, there are qualities of slate lower than 3.0 kg or 3,5 kg per square and lower resistance at low temperatures as 0° degrees on the market).

Do you need more space for bikes and wood? A beautiful side canopy for a small house!

A tip we give you if you choose a small house, for example 2 x 2 meters, is to provide it with a side canopy.

Once the wooden house is completed, it is installed in the left or right side of the house.

It sticks out about 1 meter and has railings for stability and appearance.

It is available for each house size and it will allow you to insert wood, bikes and to recover inner space for other uses.

The price of this product is really low, starting from 95 €.

Do you need more air exchange in the house?

We recommend the Made in Italy + economic combination :-)

Let's take a small example to explain better the importance: the customer X buys a cheap house at a well-known DIY shop. He looks at the cheap price and attracted by the offer, he does not think about the future and buys it.

When the house arrives at home, the material could be very rough and the roof is made of OSB. He think: "Ok, I'll smooth it and at the most change the roof in obs that looks ugly and I assemble it. " When he assembles it, he realizes that the house is small and if it had been 1 meter more, it would have been comfortable. Then, he goes back to the shopping center, but they say it is not possible to lengthen it by 1 meter, since they do not have the pieces to do it.

Purchasing from a manufacturer like us, which checks the entire production chain, the product has certainly been checked and selected, the roof is always in matchboards (we do not put obs panels or similar) and in addition, if one of our customers realizes that wants to lengthen his house, we can send additional panels.

Furthermore, being manufactures, we always have all the spare parts available, so that if some parts will be damaged in the years, they can be easily replaced.

This is for us giving an excellent service to the customer and the certainly that his house can last as long as possible!

Do you need more air exchange in the house?

The vents are very useful (in the photo our plastic model). The assembly is easy: cut the side of the wooden panel and insert the air inlet, screwing it with screws.

We can also install the air inlet in the desired position for free, so that it is already finished.

It is very important to insert an internal plastic mesh to prevent animal from entering: a significant detail for those who live in the countryside.
